Presenting… The LanEVO – CustomPinoyRides 2012 Calendar!

Photos by Car Photography Club Members THE aSTIG, Philip Aragones, Karl San Luis, and Andy Rodriguez

Better late than never. We did a ton of shoots last year of different car clubs and groups, and have a whole lot of adventure stores to tell about it. We did this so we can give back to the automotive community by offering something they can hang on their walls to remind them everyday of the fun and camaraderie involved in being part of a car club.

It took a while for us to finish designing the calendar layouts and to make the photos match, as it was our first time in doing this and we found that it was harder than we had expected. But now that we got the hang of things, rest assured that this will be the first of many many more to come. And I promise we will be more timely on our future endeavors.

Our first calendar release is for the LanEVO Club Philippines. There is a story behind how the club came to be, and you can read about on our previous feature here. But let me tell you our story of how this calendar came about.

It took the combined efforts of 4 extremely talented Car Photography Club members whose names you see above. There’s Karl San Luis, who is probably best known in the motorsports community for his work gracing the pages of the best drifting resource on the planet – Drifted.com; Andy Rodriguez, who is almost like a politician when he is seen in automotive events, as he is known by just about everyone in the industry, and he also shoots for C! Magazine as well as Power Wheels; Philip Aragones, who is my photography partner-in-crime covering events for CPR, and is undoubtedly the most talented Photoshop retoucher amongst us; and then there’s me, THE aSTIG (I only give my real name to those I meet in person), founder of Custom Pinoy Rides, as well as the Car Photography Club.

Well, to cut the story short, it doesn’t mean that you have a multitude of talented photographers working on a project at the same time, that you will have the greatest output ever. Lesson learned, it is difficult to combine different shooting styles and preferences into one single calendar with various photos, and make it look “harmonious”. Some of us shot at warmer color temperatures, while some cooler; some preferred natural light, while some used off-camera flash; some produced photos with a more traditional look, while others produced shots with a more edgy style to it.

It took countless hours of time spent sitting in front of a huge computer screen blending the colors and carefully selecting the photos that would go together with each other. The result is something we’re damn proud of. This is probably one of the most awesome car club calendars ever made. And we’re sure you won’t regret hanging this in your room or on your garage wall. Note that this is not a calendar that is mass-produced. You can only get this by order (see email below), hence maintaining exclusivity.

What’s even better is that now that we’ve got the hang of this, we now know the ins and outs of how things should work. So the Custom Pinoy Rides crew is ready to take on custom projects for y’all in the automotive and motorsports community. From personalized photoshoots for individuals and companies to calendars to event coverage to car photobooths (a photobooth big enough to fit a car and it’s owner for club EB’s and events) to large-scale prints, we’re ready to take the challenge. If you’re interested in working with us, shoot me an email at custompinoyrides@gmail.com and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

In the meantime, see better close-ups of the LanEVO – CustomPinoyRides 2012 Calendar below! Check it out…

Ian King’s E39 BMW M5… Widebody Madness!

Ian King E39 BMW M5 Custom Pinoy Rides pic1

How often do you see an E39 BMW M5 rolling the streets here in the Philippines? That’s right, not that often.

How about a widebody E39 BMW M5? Perhaps never.

That makes me proud to present you with Ian King’s widebody E39 BMW M5. A one-of-a-kind monster from the CarPorn stable.

As if the highly tuned 4.9L BMW S62 V8 engine featuring double-VANOS, a screaming 7,000rpm redline, and individual throttle butterflies for each cylinder, combined to make 400 PS on a rear wheel drive platform isn’t enough to make your spine tingle, Ian has further modified this with aftermarket goodies such as an air filter, headers, exhaust, ECU, etc. along with suspension and brake modifications to put the the “U” in the Ultimate Driving Experience.

But what they’re really proud of is that they have custom-built the body kit (which is still a work in progress), and the car was widened to fit a staggering set of 18×12 Rota P45 Wheels on all four corners!

Event Coverage: Japanese-Pinoy Drifter Toni Arakaki competing at the 2012 Okinawa Motor Festival

Our very own Japanese-Pinoy drifter Toni Arakaki laid down some rubber during Round 1 of the 2012 Okinawa Motor Festival last January 28-29. He comes back with some awesome coverage of the event showcasing the drifting scene in Japan. Check it out! Take it away Toni…

Ian King and his E46 BMW with Corvette V8 Power!

Ian King E46 BMW with Corvette Engine
This is Ian King. And with him is his amazing creation – a beast of a machine in the form of an extremely modified E46 BMW 3-series, oozing with 6.2 Liters of absolute madness. Yes, under the hood sits a modern Corvette V8 engine.

Imagine such a small and nimble ride that once lived the life of a family sedan, now possessed by over 430 malevolent stallions lurking underneath that carbon fiber skin, all waiting to be unleashed by his command, coerced by his right foot.

Seeing them being set free is a breathtaking experience. Because with him at the helm, this car takes on a rather unusual behavior. Instead of simply lurching forward, eating up asphalt faster than your angel can fly, this car prefers to perform graceful yet aggressive sideways dance moves, all while leaving burnt rubber in its wake, and leaving a cloud of tire smoke in your face.

Yes, it’s a full-on drift car. And if you haven’t seen what’s in store underneath all that carbon fiber and sheet metal, then you haven’t been following Custom Pinoy Rides enough. But don’t worry, now is your chance. Check out our previous coverage of Ian King’s BM-Vette (6.2L Corvette LS3 V8-Powered E46 BMW 3-Series).

PornFest Coverage by Collin Yap

PornFest by Collin Yap Custom Pinoy Rides
The first ever PornFest was indeed one of the most fun events we’ve attended thus far. What a perfect way to kick-off the chain of automotive and motorsports events in 2012.

Despite the scorching heat, The King’s Playground at FTI, Taguig, was literally packed to the brim with hot and cool cars combined. If you’ve been following us at Custom Pinoy Rides, you’ve probably seen the results of the photoshoots we’ve done of some of the most awesome cars that attended this event. If not, you can check them out here.

Now while we were busy doing the photoshoots, we’ve had some Car Photography Club members who were able to shoot the actual action on the track. One of them is Collin Yap, and he was in the thick of the action shooting the cars being pushed to the limit on the gymkhana track.

Check out his photo coverage here. Enjoy!

Better Than Ever: Jordan Reyes’ Toyota Lowlux

Jordan Reyes Toyota Hilux Lowlux Custom Pinoy Rides
In true Custom Pinoy Rides fashion, contributor Jordan Reyes, a.k.a. The Jordan, has recently had some updates on his superb-looking, formerly-known-as Toyota Hilux, Lowlux.

From the last photoshoot we did of his ground-scraper, his ride now features mouth-watering 17×9.5 Rota RKR wheels.

Jordan decided to up the ante on the already aggressive -5 offset by adding a 5mm spacer to make it -10, and combining it with reshaped fenders to make it bad-ass! He achieved this by pulling the fenders 23mm by using a hammer and a steel pipe. Talk about DIY!

The overall look now is a low and squat looking truck with a stance that’s spot-on! The “power bulge” especially on the rear fenders give it a gnarly aggressive look that you just can’t get from any other Hilux making Jordan’s ride a unique one at that.

Cheers to Jordan for the awesome modifications. Representing the stance movement in the country has just gotten better than ever.

Join us in congratulating Jay Cee for this fantastic achievement. We look forward to seeing more awesome photos from you in the days to come.

Meanwhile, watch out for the February 2012 Car Photography Club Photo Contest to be announced soon. Stay tuned for this on the Car Photography Club group page.

DIY Customization: VHT Caliper Paint & Niteshades

Our good friend Justin Uy is here today to show us that customizing our cars by adding color to our brakes, as well as our lights (headlights, tail lights, fog lights, etc.), is not something that involves rocket science. It’s actually very simple, and can be done DIY-style by just about anyone capable of shaking a rattle and pressing the nozzle on a spray can. I’ll leave it to Justin to share his insights. Take it away bro…

VHT Caliper Paint Yellow
When people upgrade and upsize their wheels, most of the time the brakes become more visible. For most cars, brake calipers, rotors and drums come from the factory unpainted and over time, gets coated with brake dust, grime and rust. Here at CustomPinoyRides, that is just unacceptable. Luckily there is a solution readily available here in the Philippines today.

Since brakes can get really hot, VHT (which stands for VERY HIGH TEMPERATURE) has developed a special spray paint for brake calipers that can withstand up to 900°F (482°C). The process is really simple and takes around an hour with the right equipment. The result is a really clean brake caliper that stands out even if the car is in motion.

PORNFEST by CarPorn Racing®

Video by Struan Wallace / Wreckless Inc.

pornfestvideo.jpg
If you guys have been following Custom Pinoy Rides, I’m sure you guys have been checking out our coverage of the 2012 PornFest. Well then, here’s an awesome film edited by the PornFest Birthday Boy himself, Struan Wallace, showcasing the action and adventure during this spectacular event.

Here’s what Struan had to say:

I turned 30 this year and instead of throwing a big party, we at CarPorn Racing® decided, what better way to spend a birthday than to have car enthusiasts get together in one massive car festival.

I wanted to thank our sponsors for making this happen (Liqui Moly, Victoria Court, Sohotel, INTUNED online, Dri Tech waterless car wash, Rockstar, Speedlab, TOPTUL, Autoindustriya.com, V-Kool, autopartsmanila.com, and kotse.com).

An extra special thank you goes out to my fellow organizers. Ian King, Kim Garcia, Ben Ong, and Marc Ong. They really pulled out all the stops to make this the most memorable birthday ever.

Thank you too to everyone that came and celebrated with us. You guys rock! The good news is, since the event was so successful, we’ve decided to make it a regular event.

My only regret is I was hardly able to do any filming. Most of the footage is from Joseph and Jordan Distrito. I pretty much just edited everything.

Music is by Bliss N Eso ‘Flying Through the City’
