This is one hell of an epic video of a Chevy LS-V8 (Corvette) powered Mazda RX-7 Drift Car driven by racing driver Jim Gurthie in a speed drift battle against a Stretched Motorcycle – a 2005 Kawasaki ZX-10 ridden by Nick “Apex” Brocha.

Let me tell you, I’ve seen MotoGP riders get the tail out in tight braking corners and always wondered if there would be anyone with enough balls to create a motorcycle purpose-built for bike drifting. The answer came in the configuration of the modified Kawasaki ZX-10 in this video. It features an extended swingarm – similar to those used in drag bikes to prevent them from doing wheelies and put the power down during hard acceleration. Now watch this video and see how the ZX-10 goes!

I assure you, you’ve never seen anything like this before. So this will definitely be worth the next 4 minutes, 54 seconds of your life. Enjoy the video!

The CPR Car Photography Club has surely taken-off since it was launched in the beginning of 2011. Totally awesome to find a lot of Pinoys who are into motorsports photography not just in the Philippines, but abroad as well! Just shows you how talented Pinoys.

Here’s a photo taken at Mt. Fabre, Singapore by CPR Car Photography Club member Arvin Lim of Arvin Lim Photography. When I first saw this shot, I was speechless.

Yamaha sport bikes surely are pocket rockets, and look good when you see someone riding it, taking it through its paces. But here, it looks just as good standing still, while everything else goes by. Very ironic. Can’t believe that a sport bike could look so serene, yet deep inside, you truly know what it’s capable of doing – blasting down the road, making the world go by in a blur.

Since its first release in 1983, the Honda Shadow has become one of the coolest and most loved cruiser motorcycles around. The laid-back look, with swept-back handlebars, low seat height, and feet-forward footpegs give it a very relaxed and casual riding position combining comfort with style. And the many aftermarket options available allow owners to modify these even further to suit their tastes, and make their rides unique and personalized.

This is one example of a 1997 Honda Shadow which has received much love and customization by its owner. The theme done by the owner is turning this motorcycle into a “bobber“. For those not familiar with biker lingo, if you don’t know what a bobber is, I’m pretty sure you’ve heard the term “chopper”, made famous by the hit TV series American Chopper.

It has been said that the difference between bobbers and choppers doesn’t come down to what’s on the bike and what isn’t. It comes down to whether it has a short front end or a long front end. If the bike has been customized and changed with nothing done to the front end, it is a bobber. If the front end has been stretched out then it is a chopper.

Well then, let’s take a look at this custom 1997 Honda Shadow bobber. Here’s a view of its modified rear end, wherein the rear fender has been completely removed.

A Centerline rear wheel replaces the stock factory unit, giving it a more solid and muscular look. The stock exhaust has also been relpaced with slash-cut stainless steel pipes, which makes it not only look muscular, but sound like it too.

The rear fender has been removed, adding to the macho look. The rear seat has been replaced with a wide aftermarket unit with its own suspension for added comfort.

It has also received other modifications apart from what has been done to its rear end.

Chrome, chrome, and more chrome. The sidemirrors have been replaced with aftermarket teardrop units. The handle grips have received the same treatment, with aftermarket chrome units replacing what came from the factory.

The handlebars have been replaced with mini ape “hangers”. Slightly taller than the stock unit, it changes the overall look and feel of the bike.

This Honda Shadow bobber features the most sought-after look on modified bikes: a thin front wheel, and a large rear tire.

Oh and by the way, the owner of currently putting this baby for sale, as he has to make way for the Harley-Davidson Sportster 883. So if you happen to be interested, give him a ring! I’m sure you won’t regret being the next proud owner.

The 2007 Suzuki GSX-R1000 is the bike that got Max Biaggi on the podium for 17 out of the 25 races during the 2007 Superbike WOrld Championship Season. This is the same bike that won Atsushi Watanabe the title in the 2007 All Japan Road Race Championship, the premier motorcycle road racing championship in Japan. Wouldn’t that make you wonder what makes the 2007 Suzuki GSX-R1000 so blindingly fast?

Let me as you this. Do you have any idea how a stratospheric 13,750 rpm feels like? If not, let me describe it for you in the best way I can: It can take you from 0 to 160 kph… without leaving first gear! With outrageous gobs of power in the region of 160 horsepower at the wheel, it’s not very hard to lift the front tire off the ground. With that kind of power, it’s not too hard to make a mistake. And you better be careful of twisting the throttle all the way so suddenly as you will definitely be pulled back so hard, you’ll risk falling off the bike. This bike is a speed demon.

I don’t mean to scare you. I’m just giving you an idea of how fast you can go riding this crotch rocket. But Suzuki has made it easy to bring all of that power under your control. Through a thumb operated switch, you’re able to select between three different engine mapping modes.

The default “A” mode gives you all the power from the 1000cc 4-cylinder engine available at all times. Switch to “B” mode, and the throttle response becomes tamer, but still gives you 100% of the engine’s power when you twist the throttle to the max. While “B” mode makes the bike feel more like a 750cc, “C” mode makes it feel somewhat like a 600cc. It makes the bike more manageable, and with less of a tendency for the back wheel to slide out during turns, which is perfect for wet conditions and riding out in the rain.

Frame sliders, seen protruding from the fairing, have been installed to protect the bike from parking lot tipovers, or worse, a crash. An MRA Windshield, which is a tad taller than the factory version, has been installed for to make those long rides more comfortable.

Though the GSX-R1000 came stock with a speed sensitive steering damper, which becomes stiffer as you go faster, this has even been upgraded with an aftermarket Ohlins steering damper seen under the instrument cluster. This will prevent you from encountering any scary high speed wobbles.

As compared to the 2006 version, 2007 Suzuki GSX-R1000 came stock with a dual exhaust system due to more stringent global emmissions and noise regulation standards. The tradeoff is that it has contributed to the 2007 version gaining 14 pounds additional weight. The owner of this GSX-R1000 has removed the entire exhaust system and replaced it with a lighter, and more free-flowing Akrapovic Full System Exhaust.

Now let’s go for a ride around the Philip Island Circuit in Australia in the 2007 Suzuki GSX-R1000:

Imagine having this much power at your mercy. You’ll be leaving every Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini you see on the road! And all this for a fraction of the price! What I’m saying here is that this bike that we’re featuring here is actually for sale for only PHP 610,000. And the owner says it’s negotiable! Are you interested?

Riding a motorcycle is a great escape from the hectic and busy weekdays. And there’s nothing better than to take a ride out and be one with nature, leaning through corners and feeling the rhythm of the road in ways only possible in a motorcycle.

Sunday morning rides with friends or fellow club members are totally cool. Whether your destination will be Tagaytay Highlands, your friend’s resthouse in Quezon, or off to the Subic or Batangas Circuit for a track day session, there are certain things you need to consider to ensure your group has a fun and safe trip.

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation has put together the MSF’s Guide to Group Riding, which is a must-read before you embark on such a journey. It gives details on the following:

Preparations

Rider’s Meeting (before departure)

Group Size

Formation

Safety, and

Hand Signals

Be sure to read it before you plan a trip. And don’t forget, always wear your protective gear. Happy riding!
