We’ve posted this photo on our Facebook Page asking for public opinion, and it has gone VIRAL, with a slew of negative comments and protests.

With all the commotion going on, a member of the AE92.ph group says he has a friend from the Legal Section of LTO, who has clarified the issue. It seems it was an issue of semantics:
– Car enthusiasts’ definition of “modification:” body kits, spoilers, lowered/lifted suspension, mag wheels, high performance engines, etc.
– LTO’s definition of “modification:” complete change of body style e.g. closed van into passenger type, 2 door sedan into 4 door sedan, dropside truck into passenger bus, etc. hence the need for an engineer’s approval.

According to the post, if you set up your ride, in LTO’s eyes, you simply did a “parts upgrade.”

Of course, we shouldn’t take this as an official announcement, so take it with a grain of salt. Read through it, and let us know what you think in the comments.

  6. With the exception of HIDs, modifications stated on the article do not seem to be geared toward private passenger cars, if you read through it.

Body type change, overhangs, axle conversions…do you really do this to your car?

  7. Rhainer Bucayan via Facebook says:

    stupid

  8. Windz Gariando via Facebook says:

Puro pagkakakitaan nanaman iniisip niyo.

LTO pls clarify as to WHAT KIND OF MODIFICATIONS ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT… Big wheels? HID’s? LED bars? Mga naka full wrap na cars? Pls. Specify…

  11. As long as it’s a fast transaction, I wouldn’t mind.

  12. You guys are actually drawing flak for something you’re not guilty of, and hence are making the situation worse.

I think what thay mean about modifications on yout vehicle is the alteration on the physical structure… for example kotse na ginawang pick-up, originally hard top ginawang top down yung mga ganun ba… 4door ginawang 2door… and so on… yun ang pagkakaintindi ko sa modification na term na ginamit ng LTO… hindi yung modification ng makina and stuff na alam natin… the thing is LTO should educate first the public on what they want to happen before they implement this as a law… also about the HID matagal ng pinag babawal ang HID sa mga hindi talaga dapat nakaHID na kotse diba unless magpaprojector lights yung kotse and there is this level of HID lang na pwede hanggang 4300 Kelvin lang if i’m not mistaken… please correct me if i’m wrong sa mga sinabi ko kasi yun ang pagkakaintindi ko dito… thank you…

Suggestion ko LTO meet-up muna with the representatives of the car industry and work up something… ;)

  24. Russel Caligynephobia via Facebook says:

This is not new from other country, expect it to be here soon. How they will classify (Engine, suspension, body) and implement it is the other question. This mean no more Pang bulag beams, fart exhaust, putol spring, duck tape ram intake, carinderia wings.

  25. Christian Lenard Basilio Que via Facebook says:

  26. Paolo Edward Garcia via Facebook says:

Bullshit! Change of rimz size? o’cmon! Muffler? UROR!

  35. E ung kuliglig ginawang bigbike.

  36. Chris Benengeli via Facebook says:

potangna nyo LTO!!!!! naka HID pa naman ako

  37. Gus Ang via Facebook says:

I’m down with this, at least I don’t have to see anymore rice burners my neighbor makes e.g. Making an accord into a Benz s class

  38. Permit?? May alam ka naman kaya sa auto?? Besides, sino ba gumagastos??

  39. We already have a law here in New Zealand regarding modified cars ..if you do it right n safely ..it shouldn’t be a problem passing it …

  40. Glenn Derrick Vinluan via Facebook says:

Thats their way of milking more money from the public,

  41. Lou says:

Well, that, I would say is a sigh of relief. But all the more the LTO should clarify the term “modification” of a vehicle so as not to greatly confuse car enthusiast, including me. :)

  43. Raymond Uy via Facebook says:

How about the last part of the article about HID? ibig sabihin almost all the new model cars have HID as their stock lights so may violation na din ung mga car manufacturers…..?

  44. Hehehe! Kawawang mnga pribadong mnga motorista!
