Ian King’s BM-Vette (marriage between a BMW and a Corvette) is certainly one of the Filipino-built custom cars that made waves across international waters, having become famous across the globe (see previous article here). So when Ian tells us that he’s made the car badder and wilder, we just had to come and see it ourselves.
Lo and behold, he wasn’t kidding! It’s wider (bespoke widebody), lower (via air suspension), and more menacing than ever before. We got to chat with Ian to find out why he chose to modify it this way, what inspired him, and what led him to create such a masterpiece. Read on to see the rest of the story…
CPR: Can you share with us the history behind the BM-Vette and how it came to be?
IK: The story of the car you know already from before (see previous article on the BM-Vette here). The only thing that has changed is that I have decided to remodel the exterior to put wider wheels. My inspiration was Kei Miura and LB works.
CPR: Why did you choose to do this sort of build to a BMW? Why not any other car?
IK: I picked the 4-door E46 just because it was cheap, ready available, and the chassis handles well. At that time that was the car my wife’s which she enjoyed but when my dad wanted to do a project car, I knew which one I needed to ask back. The car is based off a Porsche GT3; track ready, bare bones, but streetable.
CPR: What do you use this car for most of the time? Is this car meant for show, stance, race, drift, etc.?
IK: The car was built for the track but Im quickly converting it to a street car as I dont get to track as often as I want, plus burning 275’s isn’t really much fun when your paying for them on your own.
CPR: Is it a finished project? Or what future plans do you have for the car?
IK: As of now it’s always a work in progress, I’m always looking for ways to improve the design, handling, and usability.
CPR: Any last words and people you’d like to thank?
IK: I would like to thank my car shop and staff for all the endless hours of dedication to my never ending revisions!
